Correction: Ender-1 is based on Qwen2.5-Coder-1.5B, not the 3B

Ender-1 had been described as a fine-tune of the 3B model due to an internal evaluation error. After clarifying with the Qwen team we removed it and retrained on the 1.5B (Apache 2.0).

We apologize. Ender-1 was built as a fine-tune of Qwen2.5-Coder-3B, and that is how our site presented it. It was an internal evaluation error: we did not verify the license of the 3B model before using it in a distributed product.

The mismatch was already visible on the Ollama page, where the 3B was listed under Apache 2.0. The 3B was in fact the only model in the Qwen2.5-Coder family distributed under a non-commercial research license. After clarifying with the Qwen team, we immediately removed the model from the product and retrained it on the 1.5B, released under Apache 2.0, which allows commercial distribution.

What changes

  • Ender-1 is a fine-tune of Qwen2.5-Coder-1.5B, with the Apache 2.0 license for the base model.
  • The fine-tune stays internal to EnderDevelopment, with no open weights and no public API.
  • The research, product and blog pages have been updated accordingly.

What we learned

We take two rules from this mistake: every third-party model must have its license verified at the source, not copied from a distribution page; and every public claim about licenses and performance must be checked against the official document before it is published. Thank you to everyone who flagged it, and for license questions write to [email protected].
